he is looking so sad what happend to old man

cristina vadis, Thursday, 9 July 2009

i know this man he is gez novak. we lived together for a number of years and split up 30 years ago. i no longer live in england but whilst visiting in april i saw this poster on the underground. i was shocked to see him looking as he now does. i would like to know how and were he is.

LouiseB, Tuesday, 16 June 2009

He could be my neighbour from 40 years ago who ended up on the streets when his marriage ended. Or he could be a crofter with contempt for townie photographers and pretentious ad agencies. Or he could just be sad because he fought a war only to witness the world turn into a crazy place.

I'd like to know if he was paid or asked for his consent before being used in this campaign.

Jan, Thursday, 11 June 2009

Perhaps this gentleman has chosen to live life like this,if not then society needs a shake up,or perhaps this government should care more.

Michael B, Wednesday, 10 June 2009

They say a picture speaks a 1,000 words and indeed we all can make a snap judgment based on the image put in front of us, perhaps the people behind this are saying that ofen the snap judgements people make are either pity or pitifl towards the person in question.

Perhaps what this shows is that when people give further thought and rationalise something they ask more questions and do not take something at face value- hence many people find it difficult to comment on this picture.

goldfish, Monday, 1 June 2009

when i saw this photo i thought the word pitiful could either refer to the man personally, or alternatively the situation that he finds himself i.e a society that allows this to happen. i decided upon pitiful based upon the latter of these. That is indeed if he is homeless which we don't know. Have to say it made me think about rhe issue of homelessness whilst going to work before being distracted by one of the other milliion and one ad campagns i see on my daily commute. i do have the attention span of a goldfish though!!

Pete Greenall, Sunday, 24 May 2009

Maybe he is homeless, maybe he isn't, but one thing is for sure - each and every one of us is only ever a couple of steps away from disaster; losing our home and everything we own due to a few runs of bad luck. Be nice on your way up - if you come back down you will need all the help you can get.

MAdz, Friday, 22 May 2009

Yeah sort of to prove a point that there can be a million and one answers to this photo.

Madz, Tuesday, 19 May 2009

um, Sean Scholfield, how exactly do u no that. Or r u just saying that to prove a point?

Nick C, Sunday, 17 May 2009

He has sadness in is face and dispair in his eyes. he doesnt look happy at all. Everyone is talking about whether he is homeless or not but this is not the point. Why does it matter? Unhappiness is unhappiness.

Sean Scholfield, Sunday, 17 May 2009

His name is actually Clarence Pothersage He is the head keeper at the battery farm which is run by a hunt from a tank in Switzerland, and let me tell you he is loaded.

Madz 12 yrs, Monday, 11 May 2009

Of course it's a homeless man! Don't try to be clever people.....
Nothing is pitiful. Everything desision has a reason and although we may disagree with some of them, mabye we should consider how the person who made that desision feels.

Kait, Saturday, 9 May 2009

this photo shows no background. i can't make an educated opinion based on what is shown.

Emily, Friday, 8 May 2009

The word 'pitiful' carriews different meanings in different parts of the country..... I can'see this ad as in any way useful.

Rams, Friday, 8 May 2009

I'd go with knowledgeable

Nancy Bowring, Thursday, 7 May 2009

I'm not sure what I'm meant to pity. Is he homeless or just a bearded man?

DNS Digger, Thursday, 7 May 2009

It makes me laugh that you are all so predictable and that you jumped in and commented exactly in your normal stereotypes.

Can none of you see that you are being manipulated by advertising and the reactions are just what they wanted.

Most of you really are not very conscious of the way your thoughts are controlled by media, are you?

This campaign is run by CBS Outdoor, registered via their ISP, Titan Internet.

I suggest we all write to them and ask them who is paying and why. However, given the note below the comments box which says ("I am happy for Time To Consider to use my comment on this site and on London Underground as part of this campaign.") I suspect it is London Underground just playing with your heads in a rather lame copy of an excellent airport advertising campaign by HSBC last year.

David Erasmus, Thursday, 7 May 2009

I think the options are terrible! Why should he have anything to do with pity!

Stephen, Wednesday, 6 May 2009

Pity or Pitiful? Rubbish options! How about all the other things that could be felt about this - empathy perhaps? Compassion? My experience is that people really do not want or need pity but do need someone to take an interest and the time to acknowledge their humanity.

AO, Wednesday, 6 May 2009

Homeless people in civilised society of Britain, what is then the meaning of civilised society with uncivilised issues openly seen in public places in civilised society. comment from a book: CIVILISED SOCIETY by AMBROSE ONYEKWERE.

Rosh, Monday, 4 May 2009

How do you know he's homeless? All I can tell is that he has sad eyes. He looks like a nice guy who's had some bad luck in his life. That means he should be shown pity. It's horrible that society is so hard on people who have had problems.

Lucy, Monday, 4 May 2009

MA - totally disagree with your comment and you are an idiot. If you understood the problems homeless people faced, you wouldn't be so offensive in your opinion. How are they supposed to get back into society with people like you around?

MA, Monday, 4 May 2009

It's totally pitiful. Anyone who is homeless is choosing to live that life. There's help for these people in every city and they're not taking it. Like I believe you just need that "extra 20p" so you have enough for a shelter and not for your next fix. I wouldn't waste my change on these people when there are truly important charities out there working towards curing cancer.

Everyone has difficulties in there life but few run away from it all to live on the streets. These people need to get a grip, stop clogging up door ways and get back into society. Why should my tax money go towards these people who don't want to be helped.

Rossco, Friday, 1 May 2009

I think everybody has a story... Some people are out on the streets through their own bad decisions and judgement, some have had a horrific life! I would treat accordingly. Only here once.

Lauren, Tuesday, 28 April 2009

It is the duty of the young to care for their elders and their is no reason that an elderly man with a pained expression on his face and in his eyes cannot be pitied. The purpose of the picture and the website is for us to be reminded of the true morals and values that really matter in this world. Why can't people deal with the problems in an adult and considerate way instead of being so concerned with money and pitiful, irrelevant matters? Each generation is supposed to make the world better for the next- let us not forget that their are still things that need fixing.

Eve, Monday, 27 April 2009

I am thoroughly shocked by some of the pig ignorant comments made in reference to all four photos. We're meant to be a generation paving the way for a future of democracy. Come on people, we are way beyond racist, clasist, small-minded generalisations. These traditionalist ideas are perpetuate a society where that upper-class, western white men rule the world and that a small percentage of the population owns the majority of the world's wealth.

This is challanging our judgements upon appearances. But on the other hand its provoking debate, which is important to keep us mulling over today's political climate. Please, lets have informed opinions only though.

Johnny Reb, Monday, 27 April 2009

Gordon Brown and/or David Cameron 20 years hence?

Maggie, Sunday, 26 April 2009

The photo could actually have been taken somewhere else where it's quite normal for an older man to grow a beard, and not always be smiling. The advertisers who chose this pic would have been better off taking a look inside some of Britain's care homes for older people - they'd find plenty of examples of people who need our pity and attention.

Emily, Saturday, 25 April 2009

Yeah, he's the farmer from the Spec Savers ad. He is sad because he accidentally sheared his dog. The dog has run away and now the farmer is a little lonely, but glad he is off to spec savers to pick up some replacement contact lenses.

No pity here people. This website provides NO context. Maybe it's intention is to make us question our ability to judge without fully understanding what on earth it is we are being asked to look at.

PHILLIPA, Saturday, 25 April 2009

HE COULD BE A 90 YEAR OLD WHOSE FORGOTTEN TO USE HIS CONDITIONER AND SOMEONE TAKES HIS ******* PHOTO!

sean, Friday, 24 April 2009

jolynn, Friday, 24 April 2009

sadness, worry, and a lifetime of disappointment. That is what I see when I look at this picture.

John A, Friday, 24 April 2009

It's Pity. Pity because we're still living with with a broken, defunct monetary system which he has denounced. Download and watch Zeitgeist Addendum

Darren, Friday, 24 April 2009

Sean you seem to be comfortably accessing an internet site at a time when you should be working - pot calling kettle black by any chance?

sean, Friday, 24 April 2009

get a job smackhead !

Moral Order, Friday, 24 April 2009

Hose him off the street

Bob, Friday, 24 April 2009

Isn't he the farmer from the Spec Savers ad?

barry, Friday, 24 April 2009

any one can get money and a house off the government tm as long as you aint a white british person then you can sing for it as they would not want to know ,vote bnp

Chris, Thursday, 23 April 2009

I have sympathy for the homeles since i feel it is all to easy to say that they can seek welfare or the money they receive will be spent on drugs. Alot of these people have real issues and need some care both emotionally and physically. Saying that they should seek welfare is sweeping the real problem under the rug.
If people really cared about the homeless or any other form of injustice they would volunteer not just their money but there time and talents, no matter how sparingly to synergise a solution.

raro, Wednesday, 22 April 2009

I didn't find my answer back. I do not have pity for him and I also do not find him pitiful.
For me he is just an older guy with a very photogenic face

dee, Wednesday, 22 April 2009

is it really that easy though tm?

what a bunch of horseshite, Tuesday, 21 April 2009

yup

tm, Tuesday, 21 April 2009

im assuming its a homeless person.
anyone can get a place to live and money from the government, no excuse to be a hobo

BOB, Friday, 17 April 2009

Who ever made this website is twisting our minds just showing picture is not enough.

Fred Barboo, Friday, 17 April 2009

Pity my arse, if I live to that age I'll be surprised and delighted in equal measure.

He looks like he's a farmer of fisherman. Two very rewarding professions.

Becks, Wednesday, 15 April 2009

I feel pity but whether he would want my pity is another thing all togther. I find the hoards of chuggers more pitful than the homeless people themselves

davely_scout, Wednesday, 15 April 2009

He looks like my grandad, who neither needed nor asked for pity. Can't wait to be old, so people can ask similarly pointless questions about me

Deborah, Wednesday, 15 April 2009

Hard to tell from this photo, he could be a millionaire just decided to change his look! But maybe it says we judge too much by how people look when we dont know the full facts
